When prompted, just enter your Wemo account email and password that you would like linked to Google Home. Once your Wemo account is verified and linked to your Google account, you can see your Wemos listed in Home Control screen. To control your devices, say “Okay, Google. Turn on/off my .” You can also assign Wemo devices to a room in the Google Home/Google Assistant app to control together. Now, you can control all your Wemo devices without having to reach for your phone.
For some reason though even following the above doesn’t get me the prompt unfortunately. I wish I could figure out how to force the prompt. Basically, when you go to link WeMo, you're supposed to get a prompt saying to allow a Google Assistant connection. Yet when I tried to set up through Google Home, it took me to the app and nothing more. No Google Assistant question at all. If you already own a Google Home, you can get Wemo’s home switches for around $30 each on its official website.
Does Wemo light switch need a hub
Long story short, after everything was set up, I randomly deleted the WeMo app. Then added through Google Home, finally got the Google Assistant question, and all is well. At the top right, tap your profile image or initial. Tap Assistant and then Home control. Have had to reset it a bunch of times. Generally speaking, the 2.4 GHz frequency band has a longer range than the 5 GHz frequency band.

Use WeMo Plugs and IFTTT With Google Home
After assigning each Wemo device to a room, tap DONE. Now you can control any light from hallways, stairwells, the Wemo App, your voice, and more. Lighting, entertainment, security, temperature and more — control, create and manage up to six scenes in the Apple Home app.

WeMo and Google Home
Can't find where to define custom shortcuts in assistant nor in home... I just tried, adding a sonoff s20 with hue emulation to yonomi ... Does not work anymore, only with those orginal apps/skills . Had a problem with Wemo switch that wouldn't work when I tried it through Home. Meanwhile my wife used Home to try to toggle another non-Wemo switch.
Now you can launch the Google Home app on your smartphone, and you’ll see the WeMo plug listed on the main page in that room. This process may sound simple, but a few steps seem to get hung up. For example, the app can struggle to switch to the WeMo device WiFi. Or, it can struggle to retrieve your home WiFi network settings. I've had this happen before and had to resort to using the wemo app to control my smart devices. This most recently occurred after a wemo firmware update. The fix was to go to Google Assistant settings on my Android, scroll down and Tap Devices and then click Add a device. Clink "link a device" then a list is displayed showing "linked services" at the top. Select wemo, which should prompt you to "reconnect service." Re-enter your wemo login info and you should be back in business.
On the last page, select This to start with the first step. If you want to use Google Assistant on your phone to turn on the WeMo plug, just say “OK Google” followed by the same command. The only difference is that “Hey Google” allows you to talk to either Google Home or Google Assistant through a Google Home device. Saying “OK Google” lets you send your command through Google Assistant from your phone. This will open the Google Assistant app on your phone.

It’s unfortunate that the Google Home app is misleading when it comes to the devices that are supported. Thankfully, Google Assistant supports WeMo devices and is integrated with Google Home. This makes all of the above integrations between WeMo and Google Home possible. So play around, and see if you can even develop your own creative ideas.

I ended up throwing it away and brought the kasa tp link which is brilliant. Always devices that use apps, go to the google play store and review what the app users say. You'll notice the difference between tplink and wemo. After trying to reinstall a Google mini, I had the same issue with WEMO switches.
I also think the random mini disconnects that I had also been experiencing were caused in part by the mini network address entry not being previously purged. This is why I felt the need to reinstall it in the first place. Provide your account email address to receive an email to reset your password.
Free Wemo App:
Google home would not connect to WEMO devices even though the mini appeared to install correctly. Did the unlink, etc. nothing worked. What I found, using Fling, that an old network address for that mini was still active and the reinstalled mini never really connected to the network correctly. I deleted the network entry and reinstalled the mini, relinked wemo and everything worked. You’ll need to use the Wemo app for iOS or Android to connect your Wemo devices to your home network and give them distinct names. The Google Home / Google Assistant app will bring you to a page that will allow you to link your Google account and your Wemo account.
Select the WeMo plug connected to the lamp you want to blink and select Continue. Follow the same procedure above to set this automation up. But this time make the command “blink bedroom light”.
