Wemo screwed up, no longer working with google home : googlehome

I've had this happen before and had to resort to using the wemo app to control my smart devices. This most recently occurred after a wemo firmware update. The fix was to go to Google Assistant settings on my Android, scroll down and Tap Devices and then click Add a device. Clink "link a device" then a list is displayed showing "linked services" at the top. Select wemo, which should prompt you to "reconnect service." Re-enter your wemo login info and you should be back in business.

If you set up automations in IFTTT triggered by commands to Google Assistant, you can then also use IFTTT to perform actions on your WeMo plug. You can also trigger actions based on the status of the WeMo plug (whether it’s turned on, off, or on for an extended time). Once the app asks you to set up the WeMo plug’s name, the setup process is almost done. There are two ways you can use WeMo plugs with Google Home.

The app will then show the Wemo devices that are linked to your account. Tap the Pencil icon to assign a room for the Wemo device. This means that you’ll be able to control power outlets and lights around your house hands-free, just using your voice through Google Home.

Before you can get started with controlling your WeMo plug using Google Home, you’ll need to get it connected to your network. Unfortunately, setup is somewhat difficult with WeMo devices. WeMo plugs are some of the most affordable smart home devices on the market. They’re popular because unlike Philips Hue bulbs or other smart home products, they don’t require a central hub to connect to your WiFi network.

It still shows up as a device, just doesn’t work. Having accurate location data also helps Wemo keep track of how well its devices are working and when they need maintenance. This can help reduce energy consumption and save money in the long run by ensuring that your appliances and systems are running efficiently. Stay tuned for exclusive offers, exciting new products and more. Another useful use case for IFTTT automation with WeMo plug and Google Home is toggling the plug.

For some reason though even following the above doesn’t get me the prompt unfortunately. I wish I could figure out how to force the prompt. Basically, when you go to link WeMo, you're supposed to get a prompt saying to allow a Google Assistant connection. Yet when I tried to set up through Google Home, it took me to the app and nothing more. No Google Assistant question at all. If you already own a Google Home, you can get Wemo’s home switches for around $30 each on its official website.

How To Set Up a New WeMo Plug

It’s a creative workaround that lets you basically add any WeMo device at all to Google home. Now when you tap the device in Google Home, you’ll see that you can control it by tapping the power button. WeMo plugs technically don’t work directly with the Google Home app. However, they do work with Google Assistant. And since Assistant is integrated with Google Home, you actually can use WeMo plugs with your Google Home hub or mini devices. With the ability to randomize your lights, our Smart Plug protects your home better than a mechanical timer.

The IFTTT app is available for Android and for iOS devices. Once you do, you can tap Home from the top menu and you’ll see your new WeMo plug listed in one of your Google Home rooms. You’ll need to tap the device and assign it to one of the rooms in your Google Home account. In the list of partner apps, select the Google Assistant.

Select the WeMo plug connected to the lamp you want to blink and select Continue. Follow the same procedure above to set this automation up. But this time make the command “blink bedroom light”.

The Smart Plug lets you easily set automatic schedules for any device that’s plugged in—from lamps to fans to disco balls. Using the free Wemo app, you can schedule a fan to turn on at noon or synchronize a lamp with the sunset, so you never come home to a dark house. But if i try to tell those phrases to google assistant it searches for them instead of execute them via yonomi... It's pretty straightforward, on the sonoff just activate hue emulation, then install yonomi on your phone, set the account and run device discovery.

Other than the Christmas eve update, how has your experience with a smart thermostat been? I'm assuming there's built in safeties to prevent it misunderstanding and setting the temperature to 170 or other such crazy settings? I haven't looked into it much, but not sure I would trust it very much. According to their community forum and when I search twitter for @wemo, lots of people have had this problem. Looks like they pushed an update while everyone is out on holiday. Like many people I ran into problems with my WEMO switch, so I tried disconnecting and reconnecting it to my home app.

Additionally, Wemo recently announced that its products will be compatible with Google Nest devices such as the Nest Hub Max. This will enable users to control their Wemo devices even more seamlessly through the Google Home app. WEMO also works with IFTTT, connecting your home electronics to a whole world of online apps.

The nice thing about WeMo is a lot of their products are very affordable. You can get a light switch for $45, or $30 if you own the Google Home. The main benefit of using a hub is that it allows for more advanced control of the Wemo Light Switch. For example, with a hub, you can create scenes and schedules for your lights so that they turn on and off at certain times throughout the day.

When prompted, just enter your Wemo account email and password that you would like linked to Google Home. Once your Wemo account is verified and linked to your Google account, you can see your Wemos listed in Home Control screen. To control your devices, say “Okay, Google. Turn on/off my .” You can also assign Wemo devices to a room in the Google Home/Google Assistant app to control together. Now, you can control all your Wemo devices without having to reach for your phone.
